We read with great interest the article by Kim et al., “The role of serum phosphate and calcium levels in coronary artery calcification progression,” which reported that even physiologic phosphate concentrations are independently associated with accelerated coronary artery calcification progression.1 While this large, multicenter analysis contributes valuable longitudinal data, several interpretative and methodological aspects merit further scrutiny before inferring causality.
