Osteoarthritis (OA) of the trapeziometacarpal (TMC) joint is highly prevalent, affecting between 60 % and 94 % of women over the age of 80 [1]. This high prevalence has prompted extensive research into the anatomical, biomechanical, and pathophysiological characteristics of this condition [2–7]. Degenerative changes in the TMC joint are closely associated with ligamentous laxity and joint subluxation [2,3].
